Work a general contractor does with its own crew rather than through a subcontractor — on a kitchen or bath, typically demolition, framing, drywall, tile, cabinets, trim and fixture swaps. A self-performing contractor keeps small projects affordable because each trade is not carrying a separate subcontractor's overhead; licensed plumbing, electrical and HVAC are still subcontracted when the layout or mechanicals change.
