Hilliard handles building permits through its Building Standards Division at 3800 Municipal Way, with all applications submitted through the city’s OpenGov Portal. Permits are required for any internal or external structural alteration, plumbing, or electrical work.
Hilliard is also clear about one thing that matters operationally: an application is not a permit. No construction or alteration can begin until the permit is actually issued, regardless of how complete the application is. We do not start demolition or any covered work until that permit is in hand and posted at the job site.
