Westerville
Permits, inspections & jurisdiction notes
Westerville’s Building Division at 64 East Walnut Street is a State of Ohio-certified building department that handles its own commercial and residential plan reviews. Westerville is one of the few central Ohio jurisdictions that handles its own plumbing permits and inspections rather than contracting them out, which means the entire trade-permit package — building, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC — runs through one office.
Plan review and permit issuance typically takes about two weeks after a complete application is submitted. The city operates a 24-hour inspection request line and requires inspection requests by 12 p.m. for next-day service. We schedule inspections around our trade sequencing so the project keeps moving.
Westerville’s southeastern corner extends into Delaware County, but city-administered projects within Westerville’s corporate limits are handled by Westerville itself regardless of which county the property sits in.
Other jurisdictions
Permit requirements, fees, and procedures change. The information on this page reflects published requirements from each jurisdiction as of early 2026. Specifics on any individual project should be confirmed at the time of contract.
